What is Lexapro?
Lexapro is a drug that is manufactured and marketed by Forest Laboratories for the treatment of a number of anxiety disorders, including anxiety, depression, obsessive compulsive disorder and panic attacks.
It is from the same class of drugs as other popular antidepressants known as SSRIs which were introduced in the last several years, and which are said to have fewer side effects than previous drugs.
SSRIs are extremely effective, but in the last few years serious questions have been raised about whether they are safe, particularly for those who are pregnant.
A number of studies have shown that women who take SSRIs during their pregnancy have a much higher risk of giving birth to babies with serious birth defects. Danziger & De Llano are working with families who’ve been harmed by this drug.
Lexapro Birth Defects
Lexapro and other SSRIs have been implicated in a number of very serious health problems in babies born to women who were prescribed and took it during their pregnancies.
The birth defects that have been seen have included missing limbs and limbs with a multiplicity of defects, cleft lip and cleft palate, deformities of the face and spina bifida, a defect that prevents the spine from forming properly.
Other serious effects that have been seen have been life-threatening. Babies born to mothers who took Lexapro have been diagnosed with heart defects that have left openings between the walls of the heart’s chambers and a condition called Persistent Pulmonary Hypertension of the Newborn, a congenital defect that makes it very difficult for the baby to take in enough oxygen.
Lexapro has also been implicated in a number of pre-birth problems, including miscarriages and premature labor leading to babies born far too early and vulnerable to a number of additional health problems.
The drug manufacturer Forest Laboratories had an obligation to make certain that their drug was safe before making it available to the public, particularly to those who are pregnant.
When companies are lax or irresponsible in their testing of a drug and release it to the Food and Drug Administration before properly making certain that it is safe, or when they fail to warn of potential problems, it constitutes negligence, and victims of their irresponsible acts are able to sue them for the consequences of their actions.

What Can a Lexapro Lawsuit Do?
If you have had a baby who was damaged as a result of the SSRI Lexapro there are a number of very good reasons for filing a Lexapro lawsuit.
In most cases, infants that are born with a Lexapro birth defect require immediate medical attention, and sometime this attention goes on for a very long time. Your child may need rehab or even long term care, and these services can cost you a great deal of money.
Filing a Lexapro lawsuit will enable you to recover compensation for your child’s medical expenses that you have already incurred as well as any that you may incur in the future. It also sends a powerful message to the drug companies that they need to be more responsible so that other children won’t be hurt.
